| An Verhulst studied Germanic Languages in Brussels
(Catholic University of Brussels) and Leuven (University of Leuven).
Her licentiate thesis (2003) concerns a psychological analysis of
three Irish novels and was supervised by professor Hedwig Schwall.
In 2003-4 she trained as a teacher (University of Leuven) and took
specialised courses in linguistics as a free student (University
of Ghent). From October 2004 to September 2008 she worked as a Research
Assistant of the Fund for Scientific Research at the Department
of Linguistics (University of Leuven) and the Subfaculty of Literary
Sciences (University of Leuven, Campus Kortrijk). She is currently
teaching English to adults in evening classes and to Bachelor students
at the University of Antwerp, while preparing a PhD on verbal expressions
of non-epistemic necessity in English.
