Benedikt studied English linguistics, Psychology, and Sociology at the University of Giessen (Germany) and obtained his master's degree in 2013. He joined QLVL in February 2014 and is currently working on his PhD project entitled "The genitive alternation in varieties of English", supervised by Prof. Dr. Benedikt Szmrecsanyi (KU Leuven) and Prof. Dr. Joybrato Mukherjee (JLU Giessen).

Benedikt's research interests include corpus linguistics, varieties of English, statistical approaches to linguistic variation and sociolinguistics. His PhD project is part of a research program that, among other things, seeks to model linguistic variation across varieties in order to reflect language users' implicit linguistic knowledge.
